Fixing transcription and annotation credit
|
Folks have been reporting for a while that something seemed wrong with transcription credit. As it turns out, there was something wrong, and we’ve fixed it.
There were a couple of bugs in what we call our “attribution” algorithm – the algorithm that figures out how much of a song you’ve transcribed or how much of an annotation you’ve written:
On annotations, we weren’t giving credit properly to users whose suggestions were accepted. Instead of going to the suggester, credit was going to the person who integrated the suggestion. This is now fixed.
Suppose someone transcribed 70% of the song, but left out the last copy of the chorus. Then someone else comes along and changes some minor stuff like punctuation. Then a third person comes along and adds the remaining 30% of the song. The bug was that person 2 – the person who didn’t do anything really – would get credit for the stuff that person 3 added! (The reason has to do with the fact that person 3’s edit, because it added a chor
